KOTA BARU: Pas and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have reminded its candidate for the Kemaman by-election as well as it's members in Kemaman not to be overconfident, as it would bring defeat to the coalition in the upcoming by-election.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said this kind of attitude would not bring any good to the party, and reminded them to work hard to to achieve victory.

He said Pas believed that its candidate for the Kemaman by-election Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is also the Terengganu Menteri Besar had the advantage to win the battle.

"I was informed that our machineries in Kemaman have been working round-the-clock to assist our candidate.

"We have received positive response from voters and supporters there.

"God willing, we will achieve victory but still, we should not be over confident," he said.

The Kubang Kerian MP told this to reporters after attending the solidarity for Palestine gathering at Sultan Muhammad IV stadium here last night.

About 5,000 people attended the gathering which also joined by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud and Kelantan Pas state commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

Tuan Ibrahim said Pas decided to field the Tengganu menteri besar as the candidate as the party believed he was capable for the task.

"His appointment will also make it easy for Kemaman supporters," he added.

Early, the crowds joined Pas leaders in performing special prayers held at the stadium's compound.

On polling day on Dec 2,  Ahmad Samsuri will face a straight fight with Barisan Nasional candidate, former Chief of Defence Force General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.

The by-election was called following the Sept 26 decision by the Terengganu Election Court to nullify Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid's victory in the 15th general election.

Early voting will be held on Nov 28.
