KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), similar to previous elections, has activated its operation room for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election in Terengganu starting today.

Located at the Kemaman MACC branch at the Federal Building in Jalan Melor, Gong Limau in Kemaman, the operation room will be open for 24 hours until the polling day on Dec 2 to enable the people to channel information and complaints related to acts of corruption and abuse of power during the by-election.

The commission, in a statement today, also said the public can forward their complaints related to corruption or abuse of power by emailing the MACC at [email protected] or by contacting 09-8502080.

"The MACC would also like to remind all candidates and political parties who are competing not to engage in any activities that may violate election laws and regulations in line with the MACC Act 2009 and the Election Offences Act 1954," the statement read.

It was reported that the Kemaman by-election would witness a straight fight between Pas of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Pas is fielding Terengganu Menteri Besar and party vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokthar in its effort to retain the parliamentary seat from falling into BN.

The latter is fielding a direct candidate in the form of former chief of the defence forces general (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.
