KUALA LUMPUR: Pas did not rule out the possibility of fielding Che Alias Hamid again if a by-election is called for the Kemaman parliamentary seat in Terengganu.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the matter hinged on the court's written judgement that annulled Che Alias' victory in Kemaman during the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said if the written judgement did not specifically say that Che Alias had committed corruption, the party would make the same decision it did for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat by-election, which was held during the Aug 12 state election in six states.

"We will wait and look into the judgement and the findings of the judge who presided over the case.

"If the judge found that there was indeed corruption, but did not name anyone, it means our candidate can be fielded again in Kemaman.

"Maybe we will do what we did for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat," Takiyuddin was quoted by FMT as saying to reporters at the party's headquarters here today.

On Tuesday, the Terengganu Election Court annulled Che Alias' victory in Kemaman in GE15 in November last year.

Judge Datuk Anselm Charles Fernandis said the petitioner, voter Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil, succeeded in proving that corruption had taken place with the aim of influencing voters in GE15.

The court ordered the respondent to pay RM30,000 to the petitioner.

In the Nov 19 general election, Che Alias won the Kemaman parliamentary seat with a majority of 27,179 votes, defeating three other contenders.
