KUALA LUMPUR: MIC denies reports that it has told its members not to support and help Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in the state elections.

Its vice president Datuk M. Asojan said the party's stand has not changed from the one announced previously.

"We clearly said we will continue to support Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates. We have never said that we will not support PH candidates," he said when contacted.

Asojan was commenting on a report in an online portal saying that the party advised state leaderships not to help PH candidates in the state elections.

The report, quoting sources, said the decision was made by the party's Central Working Committee who asked party leadership and members to only support BN candidates.

"This is the problem with reports quoting sources... we can't verify the facts," said Asojan.

MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan had previously said that the party's machinery would fully support and help campaign for Umno candidates to prevail in the state elections.

MIC, along with MCA, have decided to skip the upcoming state elections.
