ALOR STAR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has suggested that MCA and MIC join the pact after Barisan Nasional failed to allocate them seats to contest in the state elections..

Sanusi, who is also caretaker Kedah menteri besar, said PN could offer both parties seats.

He said MCA and MIC's decision not to field candidates in the elections could be seen as a protest against BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"In my opinion, when BN is in a coalition with non-Malay parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH), particularly DAP and PKR, which are multiracial parties, the mixed seats have to be given to PH."

Sanusi said as a result, there were no seats that MCA and MIC stood a chance to win and both parties would be competing to lose.

"Therefore, it is more reasonable for MCA and MIC not to contest.

"The next step would be for MCA and MIC to leave BN. It is more appropriate, and I believe that the mixed seats in Malaysia can be represented by MIC and MCA if they become part of PN," he said at an event last night.

MCA and MIC separately announced their intention not to field candidates in the six state elections scheduled for Aug 12.

Zahid denied that MCA and MIC decided to sit out the election because of a rift with Umno — the dominant party in BN.

The BN chairman said the coalition's supreme council would discuss the withdrawal of MCA and MIC.

At the event last night, Sanusi also claimed that Selangor's progress was not due to PH's efforts , but because the state is near the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

He said Selangor could not be considered as an example of PH governance as it benefitted from its proximity to Kuala Lumpur.

"Selangor is fortunate because it is near Kuala Lumpur, which is the centre of development, business activities, and all other economic activities centred in Kuala Lumpur.

"Other states, including Kedah, can progress like Selangor if they are near the capital. In fact, if Kedah is near Kuala Lumpur, it will be more advanced than Selangor," he said.
