PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) will be contesting for more than just five state assembly seats in Selangor for the upcoming state election, said Sungai Besar Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos.
"All I can say for now is that BN will get a bigger allocation than the existing five seats," he told the local news portal Free Malaysia Today (FMT).
In the previous state election in 2018, BN won in Sungai Air Tawar, Sungai Burong, Sungai Panjang and Hulu Bernam, and Semenyih in a 2019 by-election, defeating Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the seat.
"There is a chance that the number of seats to be contested by BN will be made known this Friday at the launch of the Selangor unity coalition's election machinery," said Jamal.
Seat negotiations between PH and BN in Selangor went well, he said.
A Selangor PH leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said BN would probably be given 11 seats to contest but stopped short of identifying the eleven seats.
"However, I can reveal that Kota Raja Umno division chief Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz will likely contest for the Paya Jaras seat," the state PH leader told FMT, on the seat previously held by Khairuddin Othman of PKR.
"Discussions are ongoing about the possibility of him being a menteri besar candidate should PH-BN win the state and he is able to win the Paya Jaras seat," said the source.
Before the state assembly was dissolved, PH held 40 seats in the 56-seat state legislative assembly, followed by BN (5), PN (5), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (2), Warisan (1), Pejuang (1) and an independent (1). The Batang Kali seat was declared vacant in February this yea
