KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Amanah Negara communications director Khalid Samad today said the number of overlapping state seats between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming six state elections had been reduced.

This is following the unity government leaders meeting held on Thursday night here.

He said discussions on seat distribution would continue, including at the PH Presidential Council-level.

"The number of overlapping seats has been reduced. The remainder will be handed over to the PH Presidential Council (to decide)," he told Berita Harian today.

Khalid did not disclose the number of seats that are still overlapped.

Last night, unity government leaders met for about three hours at Menara Dato' Onn here.

The meeting was believed to be on the final negotiation of seat distribution between PH and BN for the state polls in Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu and Kelantan.

No statement was issued by the leaders regarding the outcome of the meeting.

Among those who attended it include PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, DAP deputy secretary-general Liew Chin Tong, Khalid; Umno information chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Kedah Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Terengganu Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Said.

Meanwhile, PH Selangor secretary Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the negotiations for the distribution of seats in Selangor went smoothly and would be concluded soon.

He said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari would announce the matter once it was finalised.

"So far, the consensus is only at the state level. The power to finalise (the allocation of the) seats lies at the presidential council," he said.

On Sunday, Amirudin said three out of 56 Selangor state seats still needed to be decided following overlapping requests from PH and BN.

Three states have announced the dissolution of their respective state assemblies, namely Kelantan on June 22, Penang on June 28 and Negri Sembilan on June 30.

Kedah is likely to dissolve its state assembly on June 28.
