KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has refuted speculation that he is vying for the Kedah menteri besar's post in the upcoming state election.

In a brief post on his Facebook page yesterday, the former Jerlun member of parliament hit out at irresponsible quarters for spreading the rumours, which he described as nonsense propaganda.

"The people are not as dumb as you think they are," wrote Mukhriz.

Speculation grew when a digital poster that reads "PRN Kedah: Mukhriz ready to be MB again" went viral yesterday.

It was claimed that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would form a political pact with Perikatan Nasional only if Mukhriz is made menteri besar after the Kedah state election.

The rumour was dismissed by Kedah State Legislative Assembly backbencher chairman Mohd Azam Abd Samat, who described the claim as baseless.

Azam said PN did not form a pact with Pejuang.
