KUALA LUMPUR: "This is the first time that I have entered this building. We used to fight, but now we are allies for the sake of a better Malaysia," said DAP Wanita chief Chong Eng who was present at the Unity Government National Convention at the Umno headquarters here today.

Describing today's Women's Convention as a historic day, the long time DAP lawmaker and Penang Exco member said that she had never previously set foot in the World Trade Center (WTC), the location of many Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) gatherings over the years.

"This is truly a historic day as we gather on Mother's Day. Everyone understands why we are here. We come from different states and backgrounds, but we are Malaysians.

"How can we take a step forward to set aside differences and focus on mutuality? It is by manifesting an inclusive concept and accepting Malaysians with an open heart, and respect.

"This is the value of admiration that will be the basis for a harmonious country," the Padang Lalang assemblyman said at the Women's Convention.

Also present were the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Wanita leaders of parties in the unity government.
