KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno election committee has received objections from several divisions over the divisional-level leadership posts.

Its chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said several divisions had to conduct meetings following the objections received.

He said any division that wishes to object has until Tuesday to do so.

"We will accept any objection and give three days to any aggrieved party to submit their objection," he told a press conference today.

He, however, did not reveal the number of objections the committee had received thus far.

Shahrir revealed that one of the objections came from the Kuala Kedah division's Wanita wing.

"(And) with the approval from the state liaison committee, the election will be held before, or on Friday (March 17)."

Yesterday, the Kuala Kedah Umno division's Wanita wing election was suspended due to discrepancies over the votes tally, sparking suspicion of 'phantom voters.'

A source told the New Straits Times that the controversy emerged when the division's election committee discovered there were 570 ballot papers after the polling process as opposed to the total of 521 delegates who attended the wing's meeting.

Shahrir further added that the committee is currently scrutinising objections before making any decisions.

Meanwhile, commenting on a video that went viral on social media involving the election of Titiwangsa Umno Youth chief and deputy, Shahrir said the committee has yet to receive any objections from the division.

"So far, we have yet to receive any objection based on the situation that went viral on social media.

"If we did not receive any objection by Tuesday, we will take action against those who took the video and made it viral."

He added that the video has created various speculations and tarnished Umno's image.

"It is unacceptable when we are having party polls and the video that went viral did not come with explanations, causing speculation.

"We must defend and uphold Umno's integrity, and we did not see that by making the video viral, it would help Umno in any way.

"As a chairman, I will take stern action should there be no official objection over the situation."

Earlier today, a video went viral on social media alleging that two individuals, said to be Titiwangsa Umno election committee chairman and his deputy, had stolen ballot papers.
