KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam has called on DAP to take action against Penang Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) P. Ramasamy over his statement proposing the Unity Government to break the racial monopoly in the public service sector.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, he said the statement is a clear provocation from the Perai state assemblyman, who feels threatened by his Penang DCM position after the Unity Government was formed as he feels that the position would be given to Barisan Nasional in the next state election and he won't be retained.

"That is why he has been making statements that should not come from a Pakatan Harapan leader, like condemning Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's appointment of Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the deputy prime minister, saying that Zahid is a burden.

"But the statement that clearly shows his disdain for the Malays which is not true is about the civil service. There are still Chinese, Indian and other races from Sabah and Sarawak working in the civil service. It is not 100 per cent monopolised by the Bumiputra as portrayed by Ramasamy," said Lokman.

He agrees with Hulu Langat member of Parliament Mohd Sany Hamzan that Ramasamy should be dropped as Penang DCM.

"We should not have a leader who is a racist. Don't practice double standards and take action against a women hockey player for making a racist comment but not against Ramasamy who is trying to incite racial flame.

"We are trying to unite the country but there are still some who are trying to incite racism," said Lokman.

He also said that DAP should fire Ramasamy since the party is trying to portray itself as a different political entity than before.

"We can't have someone like Ramasamy smearing DAP's name. In Umno, those who tried to ruin the cooperation with PH have been fired, so there is no reason for DAP not to be stern against its members who are racist."

Lokman said the prime minister has also said that Ramasamy's opinions are not that of PH or DAP.

"To maintain DAP's good name, action must be taken against Ramasamy. At least suspend or give him a stern warning if you don't want to sack him," said Lokman.

Meanwhile, Penang PKR Youth has called for Ramasamy to resign as Penang DCM.

Its information chief Abshar Nurasyraf said the latest statement by Ramasamy proved that he was a liability to both the government and the country.
