KUALA LUMPUR: The assemblies of Umno's three wings-- Wanita, Youth and Puteri-- kicked off this morning with their leaders and members focused on charting the party's way forward.
The proceedings of the annual delegates conference began last night with their simultaneous launch by party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
The wings are expected to follow the tone set by Mohamad in his opening speech, in their respecitive assemblies.
Among others, Mohamad, or Tok Mat as he is popularly known, touched on the fight against money politics, the party's strategies to win the upcoming state elections and the party's role in the federal unity government.
Wanita Umno chief Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Puteri Umno chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan began their respective policy speeches a little after 10am.
For many of the delegates, the annual general assembly is an important opportunity to strengthen ties in the spirit of the Umno 'family'.
Noraini took to Facebook to welcome delegates ahead of the annual general assembly, which was postponed from its initial dates from Dec 21-24 due to the school holidays.
"Welcome all delegates to the 2022 Wanita Umno delegates assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. 'Selamat Berjuang Semua'
Asyraf said a brief prayer to calm his nerves. "Please pray that everything goes smoothly and so I get some inspiration during my policy speech for the 2022 Umno Youth assembly this morning."
Zahida, meanwhile, reflected upon what was said by Mohamad while also enjoying a reunion with her fellow Puteri Umno members. "Alhamdulilah, I have missed my Puteri Umno adik-adik. Salam Perjuangan. Love u all,"
Zahida also reflected on what Mohamad said in his speech about Umno's inclusion in the unity government and the importance of serving the people after the 15th General Election.
"Despite many challenges, after all that had happened, Umno is needed in order to form the unity governnent , in accordance to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree.
"This is the time for Umno leaders to give their best service to the people based on their experience. This will ensure that the people's woes will be tackled in the best way possible," she said on Facebook.
