KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Joseph Kurup announced today that he is retiring from politics and stepping down as Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) president effective immediately.

PBRS information chief Datuk Fredie Sua said in a statement that the matter was agreed upon at the party's supreme council meeting today.

Following the announcement, the supreme council unanimously agreed to appoint Datuk Arthur Kurup, who is deputy president, to take over the party's top post.

"The Supreme Council also approved a motion to appoint Tan Sri Joseph Kurup as PBRS' honorary chairman effective immediately," Sua said.
