KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) will support the vote of confidence for the Prime Minister so that the legitimacy of the post held by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim can be finalised and to silence those who dispute it.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said although some may say that it is a risky move by the new prime minister, it is a democratic process that have to be passed through and BN will continue to support it as a sign of upholding the decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong regarding the formation of the new government.

He said he is confident the appointment of Anwar by Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was based on the country's constitution according to Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

"At the beginning, BN decided to be the opposition but in the end, we handed over our 30 seats for the King's wise consideration to decide. The same goes for GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah).

"This is after the King's decree to support and take part in the new government that is stable and prosperous.

"BN upholds the decree and puts the country's interest above individual and party interests. BN does not want to be politicking all the time and want to focus on the people's economic problems that need to be handled together," said Zahid in a posting on his Facebook page.

He said after all the processes that have been taken regarding the appointment of the prime minister and the formation of the Federal government, all parties have to respect the decision.

"There is no need to dispute the decision made by the King and Istana Negara and we all have to uphold the decree and respect the appointment made by the King based on the Constitution.

"We need to move forward and together, build the country towards prosperity and stability," said Zahid.
