KUALA LUMPUR: A media statement purportedly issued by the Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir whereby the coalition has agreed to name Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan as the candidate for the post of deputy prime minister is fake.

Zambry took to Facebook to deny the statement.

"Banyak sangat berita palsu (too much fake news)," said Zambry in the posting along with the image of the statement with the word 'Palsu' (fake) across it.

In the statement, which has been widely circulated on social media, BN leadership is said to have agreed to name Mohamad, the Rembau member of Parliament, as the candidate for the DPM post for BN.

The statement also contained the names of several MPs which BN has supposedly submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be considered for ministerial posts.

The names mentioned are Mohamad for the post of Home Minister, Datuk Seri Johari Ghani (Finance Minister), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (Legal Affairs Minister), Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (Education Minister) and Datuk Mohamad Alimin (Works Minister).

In the statement, BN congratulated Anwar on his appointment as the country's 10th Prime Minister with the conditional support of BN's 30 MPs.

BN also thanked Anwar for fulfilling the promise he made during the meeting at the Seri Pacific Hotel (between Pakatan Harapan and BN leaders) to give the DPM post to BN.
