KUALA LUMPUR: A pro-Umno non-governmental organisation has urged party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down from his post.

Gerakan Baju Merah is also against Barisan Nasional cooperating with Pakatan Harapan to form a government.

Its information chief, Ariffin Abu Bakar, said if Zahid resisted, the group would take to the streets.

"There should be no DAP and (Datuk Seri) Anwar (Ibrahim) in the picture," he said at the lobby of Menara Dato Onn today.

Earlier, several Umno branch leaders from the Bukit Bintang division descended on the party headquarters to demand for Zahid's resignation over BN's defeat in the 15th General Election.

Umno KLCC branch chief Datuk Seri Dzulkarnain Taib and Bukit Bintang branch leader Mohd Zailan Mokhtar led a group of grassroots members calling for Zahid's resignation.

They were heard chanting "undur Zahid" (Zahid, step down) repeatedly.
