PUTRAJAYA: There is no clear winner in the 15th General Election (GE15) as no single coalition has managed to secure the minimum 112 majority seats in the Dewan Rakyat, Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh announced.

He said this after announcing the results of 219 of the 220 seats contested on polling day.

There are 222 parliamentary constituencies in Malaysia, but Padang Serai has been rescheduled to Dec 7 due to the death of one of its candidates, while polling in the Baram seat in Sarawak had to be postponed due to floods.

That left 220 seats in play but Ghani said the results for Kota Marudu also could not be announced due to weather issues.

Of the 219 seats, as of 4.30am, he said, Pakatan Harapan bagged the most at 76, followed by Perikatan Nasional with 73 seats and Barisan Nasional with 30 seats.

"Based on the results, there is no one party that managed to secure a majority of more than 50 per cent of the total seats contested," he said during a press conference at the EC headquarters here today.

According to Ghani, the total voter turnout in GE15 was 73.89 per cent.

Meanwhile, he also announced the results of the state elections in Pahang and Perak, with both seeing hung assemblies as no party had gained simple majorities.

In Pahang, Ghani said of the 41 seats contested, PN won 17 seats, BN 16 and PH eight.

"The result for Tioman could not be announced due to the death of one of the candidates.

"Based on this result, no party managed to gain a majority of more than 50 per cent of the total seats contested.

"The total voter turnout in Pahang was 70.48 per cent."

As for Perak, Ghani said of the 59 seats in the state, 26 went to PN, 24 to PH and nine to BN.

The total voter turnout in Perak is 66.71 per cent, he said.

With a hung Parliament and two hung assemblies, it is expected the two coalitions with the largest number, PH and PN would start negotiating with other parties in the next 48 hours.
