PADANG TERAP: Kedah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia is not surprised by the resignation of its former Padang Terap division chief Datuk Syed Sobri Syed Hashim.

Its information chief, Khairul Anuar Ramli, said Syed Sobri's exit from the party was expected based on his behaviour leading up to his announcement earlier today.

He said Syed Sobri had also previously expressed dissatisfaction with the party's leadership.

"If he feels disappointed, the matter should be voiced through discussions and monthly meetings. His reason for his resignation that he had lost faith in the party top leadership is something rather bizarre.

"Besides, why did this happen in the build-up to the 15th General Election (GE15). We understand that this period is the time for politicians to pursue their personal agendas because this is the best time to 'promise' something," he told reporters Kampung Tanjung Kiri here, today.

Khairul Anuar also dismissed Syed Sobri's claims that more than 1,000 other division members were following suit.

"Based on input from the Padang Terap Bersatu division, only four people who attended the press conference (with Syed Sobri) were actually members of the party," he added.

Padang Terap Bersatu division deputy chief Mohd Zarif Mohd Zohdi said Syed Sobri had actually tendered his resignation on Oct 15.

"As soon as he resigned, we held a meeting at a divisional level, in which, all 21 committee members decided to remain in the party until today," he said.

Earlier today, Syed Sobri announced his resignation from Bersatu. He cited lost of confidence towards the party leadership was the reason behind his resignation.
