KUANTAN: The move by Pas to call upon Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters to join forces in a bid to topple Barisan Nasional (BN) in Pahang shows the Islamic party is willing to do anything to gain power.

Four of Pahang's Pakatan Harapan (PH) youth movements, in a joint statement, said the social media post by Pas Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari proved that cooperation with Pas did not guarantee strong and stable political ties.

"There is no doubt that PH also has a similar vision as Pas, which is to topple the BN government and execute administrative reforms in Pahang as implemented in Selangor and Penang. However, PH will not forget the incident where Pas conspired with Bersatu and BN to topple the PH government through the Sheraton Move in 2020.

"Pas had 'slept in the same bed' with BN through the Muafakat Nasional political consensus before breaking away and turning hostile towards BN after establishing external ties with Bersatu and later setting up Perikatan Nasional (PN)," read the statement.

Describing Pas as only prioritising power, the four Pahang PH youth groups questioned if Pas could assure PH supporters that they will not contest the nine state seats won by PH in Pahang and also ensure their PN component parties will not field candidates at the respective seats.

The groups appeared to distance themselves from the political cooperation with Pas, saying there was no need for PH supporters to back Pas or PN, both which had resulted in the downfall of the PH government at the federal level and had become the most failed government in the country's political history.

In a sarcastic manner, the statement also responded "Thank you, but no thank you" to Ahmad Fadhli's Facebook post which attempted to lure PH supporters to support Pas to capture Pahang in the 15th General Election.

Meanwhile, the statement read that PH has nine state seats, namely seven from DAP and two from PKR in Pahang compared to Pas, with holds eight seats.

"It can be concluded that PH is actually in a stronger position compared to Pas in Pahang. PH as a 'government in waiting' needs to work hard to regain support from the people by defending the nine seats won during the previous election and formulating a strategy to capture Pahang.

"PH coalition parties have to renew their cooperation with the focus to win GE15 to ensure the people and environment will be better managed, and preserved more transparently," it read.

The statement issued today was jointly signed by Pahang Angkatan Muda Harapan chief Young Syefura Othman, Pahang DAP socialist youth chief Leong Wai Hong, Angkatan Muda Keadilan chief Mohd Mustaqim Abd Jalil and Pahang Amanah Youth chief Muhammad Ibrohim Mazalan.

On Aug 15, Ahmad Fadhli who is the Pasir Mas member of parliament urged PH supporters to back the party's mission to capture Pahang.
