SERDANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob revealed that he recently had a meeting with leaders of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He said the meeting took place on the last day of the mid-year Dewan Rakyat sitting on Aug 4. PN was represented by its secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin of Bersatu and treasurer Datuk Seri Samsuri Mokhtar of Pas.

"They conveyed their views and I also conveyed my views... so that's it," he said.

Ismail Sabri said this after visiting the Pahang pavilion at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2022 exhibition in the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) here today.

He said he had also raised the matter when he was officiating in the launching of MAHA 2022 on Aug 6, and as such, it did not need to be raised again.

Before this, PN had expressed disappointment with Ismail Sabri, who was seen as not being serious in fulfilling the important terms in the agreement between the coalition and the prime minister.

The coalition then sent a delegation to meet Ismail Sabri to discuss the implementation of the terms in the agreement.

Ismail Sabri emphasised that the government's focus now was to resolve the people's issues and restore the country's economy.

"People want to hear more about this (resolving people's issues). Let us focus on the people. That is more important.

"For example, the price of many items is said to have increased and thanks to the government's intervention, the price of chicken has gone down. Even though we set a ceiling price of RM9.40 per chicken, it is now RM7.50 and in some places, it has gone as low as RM7. The government's focus is more on protecting the interests of the people.

"Like cooking oil. The price of palm oil has gone down, but cooking oil has not. Through the Special Task Committee (Jihad) to Tackle Inflation, we have lowered the price of cooking oil.

"We were also informed by the Works Ministry that the price of steel as building material has also dropped," he said.

Commenting on the second quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth, which reached 8.9 per cent, Ismail Sabri said he would comment on the matter at the Barisan Nasional (BN) Women's Convention tomorrow.
