GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP has confirmed the departure of its former assemblyman, Datuk Danny Law Heng Kiang, from the party.

State DAP secretary Lim Hui Ying, in a brief statement, said Penang DAP had received Law's resignation letter, dated today.

"The state committee respects Law's decision.

"We also wish to thank him for all his services while in DAP," she said.

No reason was given for his resignation.

Law could not be immediately reached for comments.

Law was the Batu Lanchang assemblyman from 1999 to 2004 and re-elected in 2008, keeping the position until 2018.

He was also the state executive councillor for tourism development and culture from 2008 to 2018.

He did not contest in the 2018 general election.
