KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is not affected by some of its members joining other political outfits.

Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the party would instead continue with its agenda of ensuring integrity, good governance, anti-corruption for the benefit of the people irrespective of race, ethnicity or religion.

"Bersatu is also growing, with the number of members increasing every month.

"The Bersatu constitution also clearly says that if any member joins another party, then their (party) membership automatically ceases.

"These rules are consistent and apply to all," he said in a statement on Facebook, today.

It was reported yesterday that several Bersatu leaders, including two state assemblymen, had joined Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

The defection of Bersatu leaders and members garnered the attention of many following PBM's Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in Sibu over the weekend which involved the election and appointment of new party leaders.

Julau Member of Parliament Larry Sng was appointed as the new president at the EGM which also saw the appointment of 30 committee members, including Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong and Buntong assemblyman A Sivasubramaniam, who were both formerly from Bersatu, former PKR Wanita chief Haniza Talha as deputy president I, Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat as deputy president II and Tebrau Member of Parliament Steven Choong as senior vice-president I.

Apart from Haniza who is also the Lembah Jaya State Assemblyman, the other Selangor state assemblyman is Dr Daroyah Alwi the Sementa representative, both members of Bersatu.

Previously, PBM was known as the Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) founded by Sng's father, Datuk Sng Chee Hua in 2012.

Media reports previously quoted the younger Sng as saying that PBM was a party that supported the Malaysian Family concept and the government of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
