KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) is unperturbed with the formation of a new political party by former Parti Warisan Sabah's vice-president Datuk Peter Anthony.

PBRS President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the new party is unlikely to divide the unity among the Kadazandusun Murut Rungus (KDMR) community.

Apart from being Melalap assemblyman, Peter is also the president of the Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) Malaysia.

"I am quite certain that his (Peter's party) will not go far, we will have to see (how it goes in the future).

"But I am not worried as it is more likely to split Warisan than PBRS," he said, claiming the people were more keen to be united under PBRS.

Joseph was speaking in a press conference after the handover of membership application forms from former Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) members at Wisma Kinsabina, here.

Among those present were PBRS deputy president Datuk Arthur Kurup, former PCS deputy president Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing and former PCS vice-president Datuk Ewon Ebin.

Joseph was also asked about the possibilities of PBRS merging with another local-based KDMR political outfit Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) for better political unity as some new members including Wilfred and Ewon were also from PBS.

"It is our intention (to be united), but the uniqueness of PBRS is that we are consistent in our struggle and we are sincere.

"Regardless of what it is, we will not say one thing today, but tomorrow is different," he said.

Unlike PBS, Joseph's party remains in Barisan Nasional despite the coalition's defeat in the 14th general election.

Joseph who is also Pensiangan member of parliament said PBRS would like to continue pursuing an economic development agenda for the people of Sabah in terms of infrastructure, education and health among others.

As for the upcoming general election, Joseph said seat allocation will be based on consensus.
