KUCHING: The Election Commission (EC) has reminded all political parties that the campaigning period for the 12th Sarawak State Election will come to an end at 11.59pm tonight.

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said all parties must stop all forms of campaigning activities, including making appeals for votes.

"After the period ends, political parties cannot appeal for votes including on social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram among others.

"All parties and candidates are also prohibited from opening barung (tents) during the voting day," he said.

A total of 1,213,769 voters will vote in the state election tomorrow from 7.30am to 5pm.

There will be 1,866 polling centres with 3,555 polling channels or streams for voters to cast their votes, with a total of 46,565 election workers handling the election process.

He said voters were advised to cast their votes according to the proposed times, as stated in the MySPR Semak application.

"Should voters are unable to attend at the proposed voting time for some reasons, they can still go out to cast their votes anytime between 7.30am and 5pm."

He said voters were also urged not to go out and cast their votes at the very last minute.

In the same statement, he also reminded employers that action could be taken against them if they prevent their staff from fulfilling their duty as voters tomorrow.

"It is an offence under Section 25 of the Election Offences Act 1954, where the employers can be liable to a maximum of one year's imprisonment and a fine of up to RM5,000 if convicted."
