MELAKA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Supreme Leadership Council member Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof denied urging three party leaders to resign following the party's poor performance in the Melaka State Election on Saturday.

In his statement, Redzuan, better known as Pak Wan said such a statement calling for resignation transmitted through the social media platform was defamatory.

"The defamatory statement is the act of the desperate, frustrated and malicious parties to split the Bersatu leadership unity.

"I, the Member of Parliament for Alor Gajah, vehemently deny issuing such a statement," he said.

Based on the alleged statement, Redzuan was said to have urged the Bersatu President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu candidate for the Tanjung Bidara seat who is also the Masjid Tanah Division Bersatu Chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin to resign.

Apart from that, the statement claimed that PN's defeat was an indication that the revenge strategy was not accepted by the people and that the party's campaign not only failed but was embarrassing.

In the Melaka state election which concluded on Saturday, PN fielded 28 candidates, with 15 of them coming from Bersatu with PAS (8) and Gerakan (5).

However, only two PN candidates, namely Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof and Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub for the Sungai Udang and Bemban state seats, were successful in their outing.

Dr Mohd Aleef obtained 6,789 votes and defeated Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad of Barisan Nasional (BN) who obtained 6,259 votes; Hasmorni Tamby (Pakatan Harapan-PKR) who received 2,035 votes and Mohd Zahar Hashim (Independent) who got 471 votes.

With a majority of 530, Dr Aleef shocked Mohamad Ali, the Deputy Chairman of the Melaka Umno Liaison Body and the Tangga Batu Umno Division chief.

Dr Mohd Yadzil garnered 4,211 votes and defeated Datuk Koh Chin Han of (BN) who garnered 3,883 votes and Datuk Tey Kok Kiew (PH-DAP) 3,095 votes, besides two Independent candidates who lost their deposits.

Mas Ermieyati who was named as the PN Chief Minister candidate also failed to seize Tanjung Bidara from Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh (Barisan Nasional).

The Masjid Tanah Member of Parliament received 3,195 votes while Ab Rauf garnered 3,559 votes and Pakatan Harapan candidate Zainal Hassan got 489 votes.
