IPOH: Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) is prepared to play a supporting role in helping BN win the Melaka state election, which will be held next month.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the party is still awaiting further instruction from the party's leaders.

"We have not received any instruction so far. We are still waiting for the standard operating procedure (SOP) that will be announced by the Election Commission (EC).

"From what we have heard, people outside Melaka can't go to Melaka. If we can't go, we will be campaigning by using the telephone (digital platform)," he said.

Saarani, who is also Perak BN chairman spoke to reporters after visiting Miker Pizza at Ipoh Padang here today.

The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on Oct 4, paving the way for a state election that has to be called within 60 days.

This follows the move by four assemblymen – Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sungai Udang), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) who declared a loss of confidence and withdrew support for the chief minister's leadership.

The Melaka state election will be held on Nov 20; nomination day will be on Nov 8 and early voting on Nov 16.
