KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) election machinery must be ready to face the Melaka State Election scheduled for Nov 20.

PKR president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said although PH did not agree with the Election Commission's (EC) announcement to hold the state polls, the pact's election machinery must nevertheless make the necessary preparations to face the possibility of the election being held.

"I advise the PKR and PH machinery movers to prioritise the fate of the people of various races who are in need at this time.

"So, let's save Melaka!" he said via his Twitter, today.

The EC yesterday set Nov 20 as the polling day for the Melaka state election, while the nomination day is Nov 8 and early voting is on Nov 16.

The PH Presidential Council, in a statement last night said they disagreed with the EC's announcement and that it was not the right time to hold the polls despite the Covid-19 outbreak showing a downward trend, new economic sectors having just being reopened and worry over a possible fourth wave of the Coronavirus pandemic.

PH through its Melaka Chairman, Adly Zahari will also file a court injunction regarding the dissolution of the Melaka State Assembly, tomorrow.

Anwar also revealed that he had held a briefing session with the Melaka PKR leadership and machinery regarding the EC's announcement.

The state election is being held following the dissolution of the Melaka State Assembly after four government lawmakers announced their loss of confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
