KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) issued a denial on allegations that only those who are fully vaccinated may vote in the upcoming Melaka state election.

EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said the matter reported by several media agencies earlier today was not true.

"The EC would also like to emphasise that the Covid-19 Disease Prevention Guidelines (SOP) for the upcoming 15th Melaka state poll has yet to be finalised," he said in a statement tonight.

Ghani said the SOPs will be announced by the National Security Council upon discussion with advice from the Health Ministry and the police.

He said this SOP for the election may however vary from time to time, depending on the situation on the ground at the time.

Earlier in the day, EC announced Nov 8 as the nomination date for the Melaka state election, and polling on Nov 20.
