MELAKA: Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee, one of the four Melaka assemblymen who rescinded support for the state's chief minister recently, says he will only return his official car when all the state executive councillors (exco) are asked to do the same.

The former state exco for Agriculture, Entrepreneur Development and Agro-Based Industry stressed that the State Secretary's office (SUK) should organise a specific programme for all exco members, including those still serving in the caretaker government, to hand over their state-owned vehicles.

He said that apart from himself and former District and Rural Development and Flood Management exco Datuk Seri Idris Haron, and former exco in the Chief Minister's Department (Education, Higher Education, Technical and Vocational, Science, and Technology) Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad, seven other exco members should also be told to do the same.

"I am not using the official car, I have my own vehicle but I am holding on to it because I want justice, as the State Legislative Assembly has already been dissolved on Oct 4, so there is no longer a state government.

"Who appointed the caretaker government? I do not recognise this caretaker government because Rauf appointed Sulaiman Md Ali as caretaker," he said when contacted today.

Norhizam was referring to State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and former Melaka CM Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

All Melaka state exco members use a Toyota Camry as their official car. Idris and Noor Effandi had reportedly already returned their vehicles.

Yesterday, Sulaiman had said Norhizam, who is now an independent Pengkalan Batu assemblyman, must return the official car he had used while holding the post as an exco.

Last Tuesday, the Election Commission (EC) received an official notification on the dissolution of the 14th Melaka State Assembly.

A state election must be held within 60 days from the date of the dissolution.

The unicameral body was dissolved after four assemblymen - Idris (Independent-Sungai Udang), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Independent-Pantai Kundor), Norhizam (Independent-Pengkalan Batu) and Noor Effandi ( Bersatu-Telok Mas) cited loss of confidence in the leadership of the Sulaiman as CM.
