MELAKA: PAS Melaka considers the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly as the best solution to resolve the political turmoil in the state.

Melaka PAS Commissioner Kamaruddin Sidek said in the current situation, whoever forms the state government would be unstable following the four state assemblymen withdrawing their support for the state government

He said the best solution was to return the power to the people and let them decide who will form the new state government through a state election.

"Defecting from the party is not only a betrayal, but has also caused inconvenience for many parties. The effect of disruption to the government administration must also be overcome after this to prevent the same incident from happening again," he said.

Yesterday, four State Assemblymen from Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Independent announced their loss of confidence and withdrew their support for the leadership of Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

The quartet are former Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (BN-Pantai Kundor), Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Bersatu-Telok Mas) and Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Independent-Pengkalan Batu).

The move saw the Melaka Government collapse following the loss of majority support.

The State Legislative Assembly has 28 seats with 14 seats held by Barisan Nasional (BN), Bersatu (2), DAP (7), PKR (2), Amanah (2), and Independent (1).

In the 14th General Election, PH won 15 seats while 13 seats were captured by BN. It saw PH forming the state government, with Amanah's Adly Zahari becoming the chief minister.

However, in March last year, two Bersatu assemblymen and one each from PKR and DAP switched allegiances, which saw Sulaiman becoming the chief minister after gaining the majority required.
