TUARAN: Despite the risks presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, Dominic Surat, 75, was determined to exercise his right to vote in the 16th Sabah election today.

Sabah State Election 2020

Surat – from Kampung Rugading, which is in the Kiulu constituency – arrived at SMK Tun Fuad Stepehens Kiulu at 7.40am, accompanied by his family members.

Although he has been wheelchair-bound since 1980, Surat is still keen on being a responsible voter, adding that he has cast his ballot five times.

"As long as I can still think and use my hand to choose the candidate, I will play my role as a Malaysian, particularly as an anak jati Kiulu, Sabah.

"I am not worried (of Covid-19), as there is a screening system in place at the voting centre and strict SOPs (standard operating procedures) being adhered to," he said when met here.

The Kiulu constituency is witnessing a six-cornered fight between Pertubuhan Kinabalu Progresif Bersatu (Upko) president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, who is the Tuaran assemblyman; Datuk Joniston Bangkuai from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS); Rozylyn @ Rosalyn Gelunu from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP); Andau Yasun Bruno from Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS); and two independent candidates, Joliania Lampog and Dominic Yasun.
