KANGAR: Tabling a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic is inappropriate.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan described it as a "badly timed move" to bring the motion to Parliament.

"I am disappointed with the motion brought upon by (Langkawi MP) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad now, when Muhyiddin's administration is working hard to help the people manage the pandemic.

"It is not right to give priority to people's personal interests. It seems insensitive to the rakyat who are suffering due to the economic impact of the Covid-19. This is not the time for revenge," he said when contacted.

In a statement earlier today, Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Mohd Yusoff said he has accepted Dr Mahathir's proposed vote of no confidence against Muhyiddin.

The motion states that the majority of the Members of Parliament have no confidence in the Pagoh MP as prime minister.

Wan Saiful claimed Dr Mahathir acted on personal interest as the motion had never been discussed among Bersatu supreme council members.

"It would be better if he (Dr Mahathir) met Muhyiddin to discuss this, as what Muhyiddin himself wanted earlier.

"If he is worried that at the meeting, there will be a refusal by the supreme council members over the offer to get Bersatu back with Pakatan Harapan, he could meet Muhyiddin in person.

"Not by (submitting a motion of no confidence) trying to overthrow the government, because who would benefit from this?" he asked.

Meanwhile, Wan Saiful praised Mohamad Ariff's decision of accepting the motion based on the rule as it clearly showed that Muhyiddin's cabinet does not blindly restrict parliament.
