SEREMBAN: Umno and Pas are expected to adopt their common political work cooperation next month.

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the consultative committee on the matter involving Pas and Umno and led by their respective party vice-presidents had begun meeting since early this month.

"The common political work cooperation is important as there needs to be a solid foundation and formula in the move to unify the ummah.

“This is to ensure that it does not miss its aim of being prepared for the 15th General Election," he said after attending a dinner hosted by Negri Sembilan Pas, here, last night.

Also present was Pas president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and acting Negri Sembilan Pas Commissioner, Rafiei Mustapha.

Mohamad said if a common joint political work is agreeable, then a similar consultative committee could be established at both the state and division level involving both parties.

He said some states had already established such consultative committee for ease of work between both parties.

"This agenda amounts to a tsunami wave for all those who thirst for the unity between Islam and the Malays.

"However, the non-Malays need not fear, as the aim of the political work cooperation between both parties is not to create a conflict but to ensure a peaceful nation," he said.
