SUBANG JAYA: Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) has gotten permission from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to postpone its party elections.

Its president, Mohamad Sabu, said the earliest the elections would be held would be June next year.

However, he said the branch level meetings were would go on as scheduled, in March.

“The date of the party convention will be decided later, around or after June. The elections will be as per usual, where delegates will vote and not through any e-voting system,” he told reporters after opening the Selangor PAN convention attended by about 1,000 people.

The party elections were supposed to be have been held this year but the party had gotten approval for a postponement from RoS due to the 14th general election.

Asked whether PAN had a list of Umno members who were barred from joining the party, Mohamad said there was no such blacklist.

“We have not discussed such a thing (blacklist). No... as of now, there is no blacklist.”

Asked if there were any leaders of other parties wanting to join PAN, Mohamad admitted there were some Umno and Pas leaders who had shown such interest.

“If they are regular members (of other parties), we will accept (their applications). But if they are part of the higher leadership, then we would have to discuss things. In general, there are many opposition party members who have left and now joined PAN and other Pakatan Harapan component parties,” he said.

Asked about a potential Umno-Pas partnership, Mohamad said he would welcome such a development where two Malay-Muslim parties worked together.

“We would not be worried about such a thing but instead would welcome it. Let them be open about it... hiding things would make it worse. We pray they can work together and that PH can face them (together),” he said.
