KUALA LUMPUR Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) is bent to destroy Umno because the former fear the strength of 72-year-old party, which is backed by strong grassroots.

Umno supreme council member, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, said the party is still relevant and capable to gain strong support from the Malay community, which was proven in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Based on the statistics of the GE14 results, she said the defeat faced by Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) was not because they lost the support of the Malays but because the party lost the support of the non-Malays.

“Why is the “bunga raya” (PPBM) wanted to destroy Umno so badly? Why is the “bunga raya” shows so much anger towards Umno leaders?

“Why is the bunga raya created the rumours that all Umno divisions will be closed down by end of the year, before Christmas (Dec 25), saying the party supposedly can no longer survive, (its leaders) involved in corruption), Umno is evil and so on?

“Because they know the strength of Umno is in its grassroots. This is what they want from Umno,” said Azalina.

Azalina was speaking in her winding up speech of the Puteri Umno assembly as part of the Umno Annual General Meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.

“PPBM may attempt to attack the party’s head, body and limb (Umno leaders and members), but the party, including the Puteri wing must continue to fight to survive, even if there was only one member left,” she said.

“Umno still strongly exist in the heart of the Malays.

“This conclude that Umno is still relevant for the Malays,” she said.

Present at the assembly were Umno vice president, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam.

Also in attendance was PAS Ameerah director Husna Hashim.
