KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has given her assurance that she would not make personal attacks to win the party election.

She said the era of dirty politics was gone and the candidates should be more mature in determining the party’s direction.

“I hope that (my) friends who are still using this tactic as a weapon to leave the method.

“Let's leave it (in the past) and move forward in looking for a way to bring changes to the party and at the same time develop the country.

“My position will not be affected with such game; in fact (I) will continue to work as usual because the party and the people could see all efforts I put in,” she said after attending the Girl2Leader Malaysia Initiative today.

Zuraida, who is also the Housing and Local Government Minister, said the recent statement by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to warn leaders against using cunning methods to win the party election was timely.

She said the reminder by Anwar, who won the party’s president post unopposed, would improve healthy competition among the candidates.

“(Prime minister) Tun M (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) has also said our mentality has yet to change and there are some leaders who wanted to continue opposing even after being in the government.

“There were candidates who had challenged each other, call for debates and others, when it is time to go on the ground and work hard to strengthen the party’s position.

“This is the time we improve the party’s strength while serving to improve the people’s livelihood,” she said.

Also present was Menteri Besar Selangor Amirudin Shari’s wife, Masdiana Muhamad.
