KANGAR: Perlis Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim admitted writing a letter to the state's Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man a few days ago.

The former minister in the prime minister's department however declined to reveal the contents of the letter which was delivered via a third party.

"If you want to know, call Azlan and ask him (about the contents)," Shahidan said briefly when contacted, today.

Meanwhile, a source claimed that in the letter, Shahidan asked Azlan, who is also Bintong assemblyman to step down as MB.

"The letter informed Azlan that he needed to let go of the MB post as he does not have the support of the majority of BN assemblymen," the source said.

The source added that the nine BN assemblymen who had boycotted Azlan's swearing-in ceremony last Thursday are believed to still be in disagreement over his appointment as MB.

"Some of them have started appearing at programmes in their constituencies because that is their job.

"When asked by press members, they said they abide by the decree of the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

"However they have not declared support for Azlan. If they support him, they would have issued a statement to the media," the source said when contacted.

Yesterday , Shahidan stressed that they don't support Azlan as MB, denying a newsportal report that the nine BN assemblymen had made a u-turn.

"Will not support! They (nine assemblymen) contested in their constituencies under the Perlis BN ticket. I am the state BN chairman, so it is simple, and there is no need to question this," he had said.

Efforts to obtain a respond from Azlan have failed so far as he is not answering phone calls or replying messages.
