ARAU: Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man will seek Barisan Nasional (BN) top leaders' advice on the appointment of the state executive councillors following the absence of nine BN representatives at his swearing-in ceremony today.

Azlan, who is holding the post for a second term, said he would discuss the matter with BN acting chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and party's vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“I need to see them (Zahid and Hishammuddin) to get their guidance for the appointment of state executive councillors.

“During the meeting, I will also give my view on the best formula to speed up the formation of a state government,” he told reporters at Istana Arau today.

On fellow party members who opposed his appointment, Azlan said he upheld the trust given by Raja Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail for him to continue leading the state for the second term.

“To me, this is a huge responsibility that I need to take in carrying the role of Menteri Besar because we know that Perlis is now an opposition state.

“Thus all the development agenda mentioned by Tuanku (Raja Perlis) will be continued.

I also hope that I will get all the supports from all assemblymen especially from BN in helping me to carry out the state development agenda,” he said.

Azlan added he would also meet with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to discuss allocation to the state.

Meanwhile, Perlis Pas commissioner Mohd Shukri Ramli said it was sad that nine BN assemblymen refused to attend the ceremony this morning.

He said they should push aside their personnel interest and work together in forming the state government to give the service to the people.

“It was sad when listening to Raja Perlis’s speech and they should have left the position or party sentiment out and work together to give services for the people,” he said.

Sena PKR assemblyman Asrul Nizan Abdul Jalil said the group should stop politicking and start working together for the state.

“This is the time for us to unite and focus on developing Perlis and we believes that Pakatan Harapan also will cooperate for the betterment of Perlis people.

On the possibility of PH Perlis and BN to from a unity government, he said that he would leave it to top national leader to decide.
