ALOR STAR: Kedah Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has today sworn in as the 13th Kedah Menteri Besar.

The swearing in ceremony was held before the Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah at Anak Bukit Palace here today.

The Jitra assemblyman led PH to win 18 state seats to form the majority in the state legislative assembly, defeating Barisan Nasional (BN) which only retained three state seats in the 14th General Election on Wednesday.

This is the second time Mukhriz being made Kedah Menteri Besar after being appointed for the first time after BN wrested Kedah from Pas-led government in the 13th General Election five years ago.

However, in 2016, Mukhriz was forced to relinquish the post following a revolt among the 20 BN assemblymen who claimed to have lost their confidence on his leadership.

He was subsequently expelled from Umno for openly criticising the BN leadership and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd debts.
