ALOR STAR: Kedah Umno Youth today called for a change in party leadership, urging party president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak to initiate a transition of power immediately given that Barisan Nasional (BN) has lost its power after a 60 year rule of the country.

Its chief, Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said Barisan Nasional (BN) needed to move forward and carry out rejuvenation to regain people’s support and at the same time, be an effective opposition.

“To do that, we need a change in the leadership and approach. Umno and BN will not succeed with the current leadership and management that we have today,” he said in a statement today.

Shaiful said the party had done everything possible to defend the party’s presidential institution, which is equivalent to defending the party.

“The Umno Youth wing has always been consistent in defending the president, but for the sake of party survival, we are urging Datuk Seri Najib to do the honourable thing and step down from the post to make way for a younger and more capable leadership.

“It is obvious that he has failed to lead and defend the power that we held for 60 years.

“We can no longer shoulder this personal liability. The party needs to rise and carry out a complete transformation.

“We must realise that the people have given us the verdict, it is time for us to do some soul searching and move forward as a united team,” he said.

On the 14th General Election (GE14) results, he said the Umno Youth wing has accepted BN’s worst performance with an open heart and respects the people’s decision.

BN lost its power after 60 years, after only winning 79 of 222 parliamentary seats, besides losing several states, such as Kedah,

Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka dan Johor.
