GEORGE TOWN: The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for Pulau Tikus and Padang Kota, Jason Loo Jieh Sheng and H’ng Khoon Leng, respectively, launched manifestos today tailor-made for voters in their constituencies.

Loo said that his manifesto involves additional elements for the Pulau Tikus community, on top of initiatives contained in the federal BN manifesto for the 14th general election (GE14) launched last month.

He said the manifesto outlines 12 main elements involving six reforms and improvements for the constituency.

“(If given the mandate) I will raise issues involving the sale of lands, low-density projects and affordable housing.

“(My manifesto) also (addresses) hill slope development, enforcement of laws to protect animals, and environmental sustainability,” he said here today.

Loo said that the manifesto’s main focus is on major problems plaguing the area, such as traffic issues, and lack of old folks’ homes.

“On traffic congestion, I will discuss with residents (a proposal) to review the one-way traffic system, apart from developing a modern and automatic parking system at critical areas.

“I also hope to modify government-owned premises to become recreational centres for senior citizens with related services, offered for free.

“I would also like to introduce the ‘office sharing’ concept by modifying state government-owned premises to allow youths to start their own small businesses,” he added.

Meanwhile, for Padang Kota, H’ng’s main focus is on improving and preserving tourism and heritage attractions, as his constituency is located in the heart of George Town’s World Heritage Site.

He is pledging to establish maintenance and conservation grants, with a RM30 million fund for heritage premises.

“I will also try to halt the sale of heritage buildings to foreigners and non-Penangites.

“The sales now are not being controlled by the current state government, hence, I will do whatever it takes, within my means, to stop further sales of heritage buildings,” he added.

The preservation of heritages sites is one of the five core pillars of H’ng’s Padang Kota manifesto, which lists 59 initiatives to be implemented were he given the mandate in the GE14.
