JOHOR BARU: A total of 306 police officers have been stationed at the nomination centre for the Iskandar Puteri parliamentary seat here today.

Johor North police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad said police expect at least 3,000 supporters of the seven candidates contesting there.

“We are made to understand that it will be a three-cornered fight between DAP, BN (Barisan Nasional) and Pas,” he told reporters.

The Iskandar Puteri parliamentary seat contains two state seats, namely Skudai and Kota Iskandar.

It was learnt that an independent candidate may also stand in the election and put in his nomination this morning.

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang is expected to contest the Iskandar Puteri parliamentary seat and will be going toe to toe against MCA Johor chairman Datuk Jason Teoh Sew Hock.

Meanwhile, MIC Gelang Patah chairman Datuk S. Kanan G. Supiah is expected to contest against DAP’s Tan Hong Pin for the Skudai state seat.

A three-cornered fight is on the cards for the Kota Iskandar state seat, involving Mohammad Khairi A. Malik from BN, Sallehuddin Mohd Dahiran from Pas and Dzulkefly Ahmad from Parti Amanah Negara.

As at 9.30am, the situation at the nomination centre in Dewan MBIP (Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri) appeared calm.

Sallehuddin was the first aspiring candidate to enter at nomination centre at about 8.45am.
