MIRI: Incumbent Sibuti Member of Parliament, Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang, has announced that he will not be contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The two-term MP cited health factor, which has compelled him from defending his seat at the upcoming polls on May 9.

Ahmad Lai, 69, said he had relayed his decision on his political future to Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) top leadership.

“I would like to express my appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg for giving me the opportunities to serve the Sibuti constituents for the past two terms.

“I would like to extend the same appreciation to the people in Sibuti, who had given their support to the ruling coalition in developing the parliamentary constituency,” he told the New Straits Times when contacted today.

He also called on his supporters and the constituents in Sibuti to provide the same support to the new candidate to be fielded by BN for the seat in GE14.

It was reported that Abang Johari, who is also the Sarawak BN chairman, will unveil the full line-up of candidates at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu headquarters in Jalan Bako near Kuching today.

BN will be fielding candidates in all 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak for GE14.
