KUALA LUMPUR: There are moments when love transcends boundaries and one such example can be seen in the heartwarming cross-cultural marriage of Elyia Rahman and Wong Hong Sheng.

They recently tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony that pays homage to their culture.

A video of their wedding ceremony held in a hall on Feb 27 was posted by the bride's cousin, Mohd Faizal Fuad on Facebook and has gained 1.7 million views and 2.3k shares at the time of writing.

It portrayed a stunning reflection of the couple's diverse cultural backgrounds following the incorporation of both Chinese and Malay elements into the ceremony.

This can be seen through the Chinese tea ceremony, known as cha dao, where both bride and groom serve tea to honour their families, including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other esteemed elders.

In return, the couple receives well wishes and gifts, which is an act of welcoming either the bride or groom into the family and unifying both families.

At the same, it could also be seen that Malay custom was incorporated into the wedding with the couple greeting the elders by engaging in a 'salam', a revering handshake by touching the back of the hand to their forehead.

The bride's sister, Farah Jehan, meanwhile, commented that the wedding had united both families and believed that the newlyweds were capable of taking care of their parents.

"As the elder sister, I am proud of both of them as they take good care of both parents.

"Even before the marriage, they have been taking care of the family responsibly. Don't worry, with the bond formed, I believe they will love our parents more, respect and appreciate all family members," she said.

The heartwarming video has captured netizens' hearts, with some of them saying that the people should embrace cultural differences in Malaysia.

"Congratulations (to the newlyweds).

"There is nothing to deny that culture has no restrictions, as long as it does not violate the noble values of each religion," said a netizen.

Some also commented that the wedding was a good example of a cross-cultural wedding that showcases harmony, as well as preserving the respective traditions and cultures.

"May they be happy forever and congratulations to the newlyweds."
