KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian woman's pursuit of rapid weight loss through slimming coffee has led to unforeseen health complications, highlighting the dangers of quick-fix solutions.

The woman, in her 30s, apparent weight loss had turned into a medical ordeal as she began suffering from severe health issues, ultimately requiring kidney dialysis.

This was shared on social media platform X by nutritionist Jazeera Julaili who shared the story of her patient.

She said her patient had regularly consumed weight-loss coffee since 2022 and successfully shed around 10 to 20kg.

Her patient continued to consume the drink due to the encouraging initial results, but began experiencing alarming health problems, she said.

"Up until this year, she felt weak and went for a check-up. Her estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) notice was at 40 and she was in denial.

"Starting from there, her health condition was on and off until she was rushed to the emergency department after she fainted.

"When the blood result came out, her eGFR was at three and creatinine at 1700," said the nutritionist.

Due to the consumption of these weight loss products, the patient might require regular kidney dialysis later in life, Jazeera warned.

Through her post, she urged the public to refrain from experimenting with quick weight loss products.

"I don't want to blame anyone; the risk lies in your own hands. If you want to try, go ahead. But better be safe than sorry. Seek expert advice."

The post has so far gained 1.8 million views with 12k reposts and 12.3k likes at the time of writing.

Jazeera's post has gained traction with the public which resonated with the nutritionist's concern.

Some had also praised the nutritionist for raising awareness of the dangers of quick-fix solutions.

"Do not trust any slimming or detox drinks. It may affect your kidneys soon," commented a netizen.

Meanwhile, some mentioned that it is better to just watch our diet and maintain a calorie deficit.

"Weight loss is a journey. There is no need to support or purchase weight loss supplement products anymore.

"There may be side effects in the future."
