KUALA LUMPUR: FOMO (fear of missing out)-driven locals endured a six-hour wait for the viral "cromboloni" dessert, sparking widespread criticism online as netizens labelled the act an absurd waste of time.

A video shared by user @IrsyadAdanan has amassed one million views within a day since its upload on X (formerly Twitter).

The roughly two-minute footage showcased a crowded queue engaged in a heated argument with the person-in-charge (PIC) and a man in a white cap, due to the extended waiting time and abrupt imposition of purchase limits for those in line.

In the video caption, user @IrsyadAdanan expressed frustration, detailing a six-hour wait from 8.40am to 2.40pm. He said that the claim suggested customers could purchase an unlimited quantity.

However, he shared that due to the early arrival of personal shoppers (PS), they were given priority, leading to restrictions for long-awaiting customers, allowing them to buy only two pieces per flavour.

Contrary to receiving support and approval from netizens, the video received severe criticism, directing blame towards the user and the entire crowd that willingly invested six precious hours to savour a trending dessert.

User @khairulamirin7 commented: "No wonder the savings of Malaysians are low. Quick to FOMO over viral things."

At the same time, @jungledweller1 asked everyone to uphold self-respect.

"Please have some self-respect. If the business owner doesn't know how to respect customers and doesn't care that you stand for hours, then there's no need to support such a business.

"If you're willing to endure being strung along, that's the kind of service you'll get."

Meanwhile, @anuarismm humorously remarked: "I just want to say one thing, those queuing act like there's no other food available. You have so much time being food slaves, hahaha."
