KUALA LUMPUR: The management of an eatery in Penang was left in shock after discovering three luggage bags containing nearly 10 cats which were abandoned in its parking lot.

A TikTok video shared by user @sheikharjans yesterday revealed that at about 10.30 pm, a car was seen entering the restaurant's parking area.

About 15 minutes later, the same car left the premises.

"Perhaps they changed their minds about dining here. Then, at 3am, our staff noticed three bags in the parking lot," said @sheikharjans.

Upon investigating and opening the bags, they were surprised to find four adult cats and several kittens.

"Some of them had even soiled themselves in the bags. All the cats seemed exhausted, distressed, hungry and frightened in the dark.

"For about six hours, these unfortunate cats struggled to free themselves from the bags," he added.

@sheikharjans said he does not mind if someone wants to leave unwanted animals at his restaurant, as long as they inform the staff beforehand.

The video has garnered nearly 1 million views and over 8,000 comments from outraged netizens.

Netizens speculated that it might not be the cat owners who abandoned the cats, but ill-willed neighbours.

"There is a collar. Surely someone who doesn't like it (the cats) just abandoned his neighbour's cat," says user @MasturaRamli.

Another netizen, @Miyan said there are people who have ill-intentions towards animals which they don't own.

"I feel like it's not the cat's owner who left the cats, but rather the neighbours.

"Because I have been taking care of cats since I was little, and even now, at the age of over 20, I still take care of them. Many of my neighbours are the ones who abandon my cats," said @Miyan.
