KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens have lambasted a social media influencer who described the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as being meaningless.

In a video originally uploaded by TikTok user @ohyeke_sg, the influencer, Yousaf Iqbal, said what he went through during his school days had no value.

However, the video could no longer be found on the link as it may have been deleted.

"When I look back at what I went through in school, it has absolutely no value, guys. Even the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) is.... empty," he said in what looked like footage from a podcast or online talk show.

"It is understandable that some people may aspire to become engineers because it is necessary in the country, but there will be 'haters' who label the profession as important in Malaysia.

"But, if we think about it seriously, the real value is Allah's knowledge." he said.

However, he urged the public not to repeat the mistakes he made.

He gave an example to show how some knowledge were more practical as compared to the other things one learns during one's education.

"Imagine this, I'm already married. Sometimes my wife has her menstrual period. Sometimes it's more than the expected days.

"I will go, 'how many days has it been? What is this blood?'

"If it's like this, what should I do? Can I perform my prayers or not? Embarrassing. You're a husband, but you can't answer these questions."

He admitted some people might struggle to practise basic knowledge despite learning it in the past.

Netizens were infuriated with what Yousaf said about the Malaysian education system, describing what he said as baseless and foolish.

"If you criticise the education system, I support you. But for you to say that schools have no value, and are empty, you are ignorant. The problem lies with you, not the school."

"Islam is about moderation," said social media user @HarithHmzh.

"I learned about the menstrual cycle at school. I explained it to my wife properly. You're the one being foolish, then you treat others as if they are stupid like you? The one without value is you," says user @eth_flaming
