SEREMBAN: Lance Corporal Azirul Othman, 33, demonstrated heartwarming kindness when he helped an elderly woman sitting under the scorching sun at the Seremban district police headquarters.

A video capturing Azirul's act of kindness went viral on social media, earning him praise from netizens.

"I just could not bear to see the makcik sitting there under the hot sun so I stepped up to help her move because it was the least that I could do.

The video showed the woman sitting within the compound of the district police headquarters before being approached by Azirul who then helped her move as she walked using a walking stick.

Netizens were mostly moved and touched by how Azirul treated the woman like his own mother.

Speaking further, Azirul said that he did not realise that he was being recorded, but noted that the incident happened recently while he was on duty at the Seremban district police headquarters guardpost.

"On that particular day, I was assigned to be on duty at the guard post.

"I saw the makcik being dropped off by a car, after which she sat near the guard post while holding her walking stick.

"Apart from being a senior citizen, she looked like she was not well and weak so I quickly went to help her move to a shaded spot as she seemed to have difficulty walking," he said when contacted by Harian Metro.

Azirul said that he also gave her a drink so that she could quench her thirst and cool down.

"I accompanied the makcik while waiting for the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) to arrive.

"From the information I was able to gather, the mak cik lives alone nearby and some residents have seen her around.

"So, a colleague helped to send her back right to her doorstep.

"What I did was part of my duty as a policeman to help the community we have been entrusted to protect and serve," said Azirul who has served as a policeman for the past seven years.
