KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of guests were left stranded after they were unable to check in into their apartment units for short-term rentals at a condominium in Ipoh.

In a series of videos posted by TikTok user @handsomecool666, the guests were shown not being allowed to check in and had to wait outside the main entrance of the condominium, near the guard house.

It is learnt that the management of the condominium had banned short-term rental accommodation. However, many of the guests were unaware of the situation.

In one of the videos, the user said that the guests were school students.

"It's late already. They cannot check in, pity them."

In another video, a group of three friends were also not allowed to enter the condominium.

"They already booked a unit, but were not allowed to check-in."

In another video, the user shared the notice, dated May 3, forbidding the owners from renting their units as homestay premises.

he notice read: "Please be reminded that the residency is categorised under residential title, not serviced apartment or homestay premises.

"Hence, the management hereby urge all residents to observe the residency house rules at all times and in this particular case on the compliance of the deed of mutual covenants.

"The unit shall be used for the purpose of own stay and shall not be used for business or any other purpose."

The notice also said that the use of any unit for the purpose of short-term rentals was prohibited.

In the comment section on one of the videos, many people agreed with the action taken by the management to ban short-term rental.

User @feyriyss wrote: "The owners of the units, they did not live there. The neighbours are teh ones that have to deal with the outsiders (those who rent the units)making noise and using the swimming pool with so many of them. The security of the condominium can also be compromised."

Another user @nangoi4884 replied to the comment, saying; "So true. Our family had to move from our own house, because we couldn't stand it. We made complaints, but to no avail."
